Safety cord adjusters and rear cord breakers

    Hook-on or sew-on?

    • Hook-on adjusters clip onto the rod pocket or ring. Quick to fit, with no sewing.
    • Sew-on adjusters are stitched to the back of the blind, for a secure, permanent fix.
    • The standard safety cord adjuster suits most Roman blinds.

    Adjusters or rear cord breakers?

    • Use safety cord adjusters to finish each lift cord neatly at the back of the blind.
    • Rear cord breakers are the alternative. If you use them, you knot the cord.
    • Both come in hook-on and sew-on versions. Tell us which you'd like when you order.

    Fitting a safety cord adjuster

    1. Fix the adjusterHook on or sew on the safety cord adjuster, slightly to one side of where the cord comes through the rod pocket or ring.
    2. Thread the cordThread the cord down through the rod pockets or rings. After the lowest rod pocket, thread it through the safety cord adjuster.
    3. No knotsDon't tie a knot in the cord, unless you're using rear cord breakers instead of adjusters.

Lift cord for Roman blind makers

Making Roman blinds in volume? Stock up on our 1.2mm Roman blind lift cord, sold as full 500m spools in 31 colours.

Lift cord is a separate product. It isn’t an option when you order a headrail kit, and every kit already comes with 3.5m of cord on each spool.

    White

    509 0566 000

Full spools only, not sold by length. We stock a limited range, but any colour can be back ordered. Please allow extra time for delivery.

    Pocket and loop tapes

    • Iron-on thermo pocket tape in cream, beige, white or transparent
    • Sew-on pocket tape in white, beige or transparent, also in 10m lengths
    • Iron-on thermo loop tape, 30mm, in white
    • Sew-on loop tape, 20mm or 25mm, in white

    Fitting your headrail

Three simple steps. Don’t tie a knot in the cord unless you’re using rear cord breakers.

    1. Attach your fabricLay your fabric flat and attach it to the headrail with the loop tape. The cords come pre-attached to the spools. Thread each cord down through the rod pockets or rings, then through the safety cord adjuster.
    2. Fit the railFix the brackets to the ceiling or wall, with the first two 100mm from each end and the rest spaced equally. Push and turn for spring brackets, or use the lever on swivel brackets.
    3. Fit the chainTake the end cap off the drive, place the chain over the cogs, and push the end cap back on fully. On the 120.09 the end cap simply clicks off. On the 120.04, remove three screws first.

    What our customers say

“Tulip 1:1 headrails can pull up more weight than the others. If a customer is paying good money for a beautiful handmade Roman blind, do they really want to pull it up on a clunky headrail?”

    Questions, answered

No. We supply the headrail kits only. Our kits include everything you need to make a Roman blind except the fabric. Need a blind made up? Contact us and we’ll recommend a blind maker.

The 120.09 Bespoke has an open cassette and a choice of 1:1 or 1:4 drives. The 120.04 Standard is great value, with a closed cassette and a 1:4 drive. For UPVC windows and doors, the cord-operated 120.02 Compact fits without screws. Want it motorised? Choose the 120.09 with a Brel or Somfy motor.

They’re the kit options for the 120.09 and 120.04. Base is the headrail only. +C adds the chain, +W the weighted bottom bar, +R the fibre rods, and +T the rod pocket tape.

Based on a 1200mm rail with three spools and two brackets: a 1:1 drive lifts up to 6kg, and a 1:4 drive up to 11kg (9kg on the 120.04). PullAway drives lift up to 4kg (1:1) and 10kg (1:4). Motorised kits lift up to 5kg.

Our EasySafe PullAway drive has an internal breakaway mechanism. The chain cog only releases in a dangerous situation, not in daily use, and clicks back into the gear house easily. It’s an optional extra in place of the standard drive.

Yes. Our 120.09 and 120.04 kits contain everything you need to make a Roman blind that meets BS EN 13120:2009+A1:2014, self tested by Tulip Blinds and verified by Bureau Veritas. Every kit is serial numbered, with safety cord adjusters and safety awareness tags.

Choose the 120.09 with a crank rod drive. The removable crank rod is made to measure, gives ultra-light control and has no chain or cord to reach. A 1:1 crank drive lifts up to 8kg, and a 1:4 up to 10kg.

Hook-on safety cord adjusters clip onto the rod pocket or ring, so there’s no sewing. Sew-on adjusters are stitched to the back of the blind for a permanent fix. Both do the same job, finishing each lift cord safely at the back of the blind. Rear cord breakers are also available in hook-on and sew-on versions.

Yes. The 120.09 Motorised kit comes with a 12V Brel or Somfy motor, powered by a rechargeable battery or from the mains through a 230V transformer. Control it with a handset, a wall switch or a smart home hub.

Use our sizing guide above. For example, a 1200mm wide headrail has four spools and four brackets, and a 1400mm drop needs four fibre rods.

Yes. The 120.02 needs no screws. Choose from fixing brackets, wall clips or our unique self-adhesive click strip.

Our Roman headrail kits come with a 10-year parts warranty. Motorisation comes with a 5-year parts warranty.

Yes. Chain comes in ten finishes, including two premium metals, and is available per metre, per drop length or per roll. We also offer free chain samples.

Lift cord is a separate product for Roman blind makers, sold as full 500m spools in 31 colours. It isn’t an option when you order a headrail kit, because every kit already comes with 3.5m of cord on each spool.
